Man. City In Trouble As Court As Hearing For 115 Charges Begins Begins

Image
The hearing into Manchester City's 115 charges for alleged breaches of the Premier League's financial rules began on Monday. City were charged and referred to an independent commission in February 2023 following a four-year investigation. It is alleged City breached its financial rules between 2009 and 2018. City strongly deny all charges and have said their case is supported by a "comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence". The Premier League claim City breached rules requiring the club to provide "accurate financial information that gives a true and fair view of the club's financial position". This information covered club revenue, which includes sponsorship income and operating costs. It has also accused the Premier League champions of not co-operating. When the Premier League investigation began, City said the allegations were "entirely false" and that the allegations originally published in German newspaper Der Spiegel came from "ill...

Revealed: How West Ham Chief Stopped Guehi Joining Liverpool on Deadline Day

Image
As reported by journalist Alan Nixon on Patreon and relayed by hammers.news, the Crystal Palace defender was ready to join us, with a farewell video even recorded. The captain of the London club had stated that he only wanted to move to Anfield and it seemed all parts were set up in order for this transfer to happen. Palace were willing to let the England international leave once they secured Brighton’s Igor Julio as a replacement. But in a dramatic twist, West Ham hijacked that move by signing Igor on loan. Nixon claims this sudden switch was the result of Sullivan’s transfer strategy collapsing earlier in the day. The Hammers had targeted Charlie Cresswell of Toulouse and Southampton’s Taylor Harwood-Bellis, but the West Ham owner only offered loan-with-option deals, described as “rental fees,” rather than paying the permanent fees expected. With both bids rejected, Sullivan launched a last-minute swoop for Igor – which in turn blocked Guehi’s transfer to Anfield. The reaction of the...

Nigerian Eagles Stun Rwanda To Keep Hopes Alive

Image
Nigeria revived their hopes of automatic qualification for the 2026 Fifa World Cup with a 1-0 win over Rwanda in Uyo. New wolverhampton striker Tolu Arokodare proved to be the match-winner for the Super Eagles, volleying in from two yards out six minutes into the second half. The West Africans leapfrog the Rwandans and go third in Group C, six points behind leaders South Africa - who they face in Bloemfontein in a crunch game on Tuesday (16:00 GMT). With three rounds of fixtures remaining and only the group winners assured of a place at the finals next year, Nigeria must realistically win that game to stay in contention for top spot and avoid missing a second successive edition of the World Cup. However, their hopes could be boosted if South Africa are docked three points for fielding an ineligible player in their victory over Lesotho in March. World governing body Fifa is yet to rule on that case. Should Nigeria fail to overhaul Bafana Bafana, they could yet reach African play-offs as...

Diego Jota Still With Us; Portugal Stun Armenia 5-0 In Jota Tribute

Image
Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice on an emotional night for Portugal as they thrashed Armenia 5-0 in their first match since Diogo Jota died. A minute's silence was observed before kick-off at the Vazgen Sargsyan Republican Stadium in tribute to Liverpool's Portugal forward Jota and his brother Andre Silva after they were killed in a car crash in July. Joao Felix opened the scoring in the 10th minute of the World Cup qualifier before 40-year-old Ronaldo made it 2-0 when he scored in the 21st minute - the same number that Jota wore for Portugal. "We're all very happy because it shows he's [Jota] with us, that he was there, and that moment, Ronaldo's goal, was made possible," left-back Nuno Tavares said. "He'll always be with us, as was clear today." Joao Cancelo made it 3-0 before Ronaldo got his second with a stunning long-range strike to take his international record to 140 goals. Felix rounded off the big win with his second goal just after th...

Forward Dembele replaced the injured Doue at half-time of the 2-0 win on Friday, only to be substituted himself in the 81st minute. Villa sign Lindelof & near Elliott and Sancho loans

Image
Aston Villa have signed former Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof on a two-year contract and are closing in on loan deals for Harvey Elliott and Jadon Sancho. Sweden captain Lindelof, 31, was a free agent, with his United contract having expired at the end of last season. United winger Sancho, 25, turned down a move to Roma earlier in the window, while there has also been interest from fellow Italian side Juventus. Liverpool's 22-year-old midfielder Elliott, meanwhile, is nearing a move which includes an obligation to buy for £35m. Both Sancho and Elliott are now at Villa to complete medicals and the formalities of their loan moves. United sources say Aston Villa will pay 80% of Sancho's wages, while there are easily achievable bonuses which should bring the total up to 100%. Sancho has spent the past 18 months on loan at Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea but neither club made the deal permanent. Chelsea paid a £5m penalty to United for reneging on an obligation to sign the...

Official: United Agree Wissa Deal

Image
The fee is an initial £50m plus £5m in add-ons and the DR Congo international is travelling to Newcastle to complete the formalities of the move. Brentford rejected two previous offers for Wissa from the Magpies this summer. It comes after Liverpool agreed a British transfer record fee of £125m to sign Newcastle striker Alexander Isak. Magpies boss Eddie Howe is desperate to strengthen his forward line, despite completing the club record signing of striker Nick Woltemade from Stuttgart on a six-year contract last week. Wissa, 28, issued a statement on Sunday publicly confirming he wanted to leave and accusing Brentford of "unduly standing in his way" of a move to Newcastle. In a statement on Instagram, Wissa said: "I have stayed silent for much of the summer, but with just hours remaining of the transfer window I feel compelled to make it clear that I want to leave Brentford. "I believe the club are unduly standing in my way despite a series of fair offers throughou...

Villa Close In On Sancho

Image
Aston Villa are close to completing a loan move for Manchester United's out-of-favour winger Jadon Sancho. The 25-year-old turned down a move to Roma earlier in the window, while there had also been interest from fellow Italian side Juventus. Sancho has spent the past 18 months on loan at Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea but neither club made the deal permanent. Chelsea paid a £5m penalty to United for reneging on an obligation to sign the England attacker. Sancho joined United for £73m four years ago but last played for the club in August 2024 in the Community Shield. His contract expires next summer but United have an option to extend it. Any deal for Sancho will not be connected to United's interest in Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez. United sources are stressing they will not sign both Martinez and Royal Antwerp keeper Senne Lammens, who they have also discussed. There is currently no clarity around which player, if either, they will choose to bolster their goalkeeping rank...

Official: Eric Ten Hag Sacked

Image
Former Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has been sacked by Bayer Leverkusen after just two league matches in charge. Ten Hag, 55, was only appointed by the German club in the summer having been sacked by United in October. "Nobody wanted to take this step," Leverkusen managing director Simon Rolfes told the club website., external "However, the past few weeks have shown that building a new and successful team with this set-up is not feasible." Leverkusen have earned one point from their first two Bundesliga games. After losing 2-1 at home to Hoffenheim on the opening weekend of the season, they drew 3-3 at 10-man Werder Bremen on Saturday, having led 2-0 and 3-1. Ten Hag signed a two-year contract to succeed Xabi Alonso as head coach in May after the Spaniard, who led Leverkusen to a league and cup double in 2023-24, was appointed Real Madrid boss. "A parting of ways at this early stage of the season is painful, but we felt it was necessary," said Lev...

Breaking News: Manchester United Agree £18.1m Lammens Deal

Image
Manchester United have agreed a deal to sign Belgian goalkeeper Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp for an initial 21m euros (£18.1m) plus add-ons. It brings to an end United's interest in Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez. Lammens, 23, is travelling to Manchester to sign a five-year contract at the Old Trafford club. United are keen to address their goalkeeping issues with Turkey's Altay Bayindir making errors in the league and last season's number one Andre Onana at fault for a goal in their EFL Cup exit to League Two side Grimsby. "I think it is hard to be a Manchester United goalkeeper in this moment," head coach Ruben Amorim said after Saturday's 3- league win over Burnley. United sources say they view Lammens as an exciting young goalkeeper with a bright future. More to follow.
